I'm a bit disappointed. How dare you disturb a Hand Sanitizer, in it's natural habitat...
Video In? No way... That kind of video quality we had. So little in resolution and dynamic range. But leaves a lot for the imagination to relive the moment.
Yeah, back from a time when "any video" was better than "no video"
"2024" on the date stamp. Wow..
Thinking of buying this camera. Did you use an external microphone in the video or the mic in the camera?
This was all from the in camera mic
@@hunsberg Perfect, thank you!
@@hunsberg Have you used the original lens in this video? Ive heard that its possible to switch lenses
The lense isn't interchangeable for this model, at least not without disassembling the entire camera body.
I regret having just bought it. It cannot shoot inside without boosting the gain and causing a grainy picture.
Yep, this is not a good camera if primarily shooting indoors or at night. I've found that it helps to set the AGC to a lower limit and try to raise the colors in post.
can i ask how you digitalize your footage?
This specific model and a few others from Panasonic (like the GS150, GS400, and GS500) are capable of full quality digital video capture over USB: m.ruclips.net/video/LGfQpY__F3U/видео.html Other brands and models of MiniDV camcorder usually aren't capable of this so it is best to use the FireWire port.
Nah, Lumia just breaks it, sir! But Panasonic is wild. Im definitely going to get that Panasonic :)
Lol I tried to be cinematic with the Lumia, but it can only do so much
@@hunsberg back in 2015 i was doing vlog on Lumia 920 and it was the best smartphone camera by its time. That time has passed, eh
This one does really suck, but if you need to add some made up extra-nostalgic scenes it would definetly do
Yep, definitely. It really is amazing how far technology has come since this.
Yet, sir, i gotta mention that your visual narrative is superb!
seems like youre a pro enough to work good with any type of camera. My congrats! Your 10 years of practice were not wasted ^)
Thanks! That is part of the fun, try to film something with "anything" and seeing how it turns out 😊
Nah its what you hear when u see something it is what really matters (just so u know "nah" on russian means pretty the same as on english, i just love that "nah" for that. Its the most Russian part of that english language)
Hey, sir, just for fun, drop me some of that RAW footage if possible, ill try to run it trough some artificial intelligence just so i could make it look commercial :D
It doesnt handle as much details as modern camcorders and i do not like the colors of the image (i guess i would have boosted saturation on post) but overall it handles lights even better than modern SD camcorders. Seems like the data stored on the film inside the cassette is somehow stores more info about light than about color. The details are crap due to old lens and small sensor i guess
I would never believe a DV could do like this. If i was forced to use that camera it could really go commercial. You just need to run trought Topaz AI it and it would go pretty descent to some modern camcorders
Yeah the fact that the camera can film progressive 30fps instead of only interlaced really makes a surprising difference.
Oh, sir, you did TikToks years before it was trendy! My appreciation, sir!
Very good footage. Help god ill get my hands on that camera someday. I feel like its the best camcorder out there. Ima huge fan of Panasonic but for god's will i use Canon right now (somehow i even hated them back in the days but now im okay with Canon) yet i dont have that much job right now to earn enough to buy that camera. I left TV years ago but now i do my blog (not RUclips) and it doesnt really get me that much money. Greets from Russia, sir! Have a good day and i wish you all your adventures would be that greatly documentaries. As my humble advice let me tell you that u (and me also ofc) need to push up our narratives! Your video quality is already superb (as mine too) but as for video, the main part is a narrative. Yet our videos dont have enough. I guess a back voice about something historical would made a film of this one.
I have an hcx1500 and it is a very capable camera, but this video demonstrates your skills at videography above anything else and for that reason alone I loved it.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Hello. I would need to connect the camera as a webcam to my computer. I need to do an online transfer via OBS Studio and I don't know how to do it all. It is possible to make a detailed guide on how to do this. Thank you
This camera uses the HDMI port to output a video feed. You would then need to plug that into an HDMI capture device to get the feed into OBS. The Panasonic website has a pretty good FAQ for getting started: help.na.panasonic.com/answers/how-to-stream-live-video-live-video-streaming-faqs The camera also has the ability to stream over wifi, but as far as I know that is much more picky and I'm not sure if there is a way to get that into OBS.
How do I offload the footage on this camera?
The standard way to get footage of is capturing it over the firewire port. However this model of camera does have the ability to capture video over the USB port at full quality. You can find out more details in this tutorial from ConsumerDV: m.ruclips.net/video/LGfQpY__F3U/видео.html
@@hunsberg awesome thanks for your help brotha
Just Curious I have this camera but I'm unable to get the videos off of it. how were you able to do so?
For this one I just took out the SD card and put it directly in my computer.
i really like how the visual feels more like a documentary
1:22 Man, does the camera feel heavy when shooting like this?
It's not bad for a few minutes, but it's way heavier than a smartphone
0:15 - I've used that same song in my reel. lol
Royalty free music is the best lol
I also have the Panasonic Hc-x1500, I'm very happy with it, when I need to work in low light conditions I have Sony Fx30 or Panasonic Ag-Ux90 😊
hi amazing wholesome footage! do you use an sd card or tapes? i have the same camcorder, but cant figure out how to record with the sd card since theres a slot!!
Thanks! Unfortunately, this model can only record pictures to the SD card and videos to the tape.
@@hunsberg how would one transfer the video from the tape over to the laptop?
This footage looks great! Do you film in Cinelike-D? Do you adjust any of the specifics for highlight detail like knee?
Thanks! Most of the time I film in Cine-V since I like the way the colors come out without needing to grade. Haven't messed with the more specific image tuning much beyond the standard profiles.
@@hunsbergokay awesome, so this footage is just Cinelike-V straight out of camera with no other adjustments in-camera or while editing the video?
Yeah all CineV and then manual white balance at 1/48 with the ND filters. Apart from that no other adjustments in post. Since all the shots were outdoors, most of the time having too much light was the problem rather than too little.
thinking about to picking one of these up. this just made me sure
Liked the solar flares right when the sun was completely blocked!
Did you have filter on the camera lenses? This is beautiful!
Used an eclipse glasses sheet for the shot where the sun was orange. The rest of the time was thick cloud cover so didn't need it.
That looks sick. The chimes at the end sent me tho, lol
Why the footage from the segment "White Ice" does have a degraded quality compared to the rest of the video? Did you changed the settings? It looks more "blurry" and less detailed. EDIT: I read the description and noticed that you filmed with Microsoft Lumia 640. Explained.
Yep, I don't trust my kayaking skills enough to not dump the camera in the water 😄
Okay, I was looking for S200 and S300 but nowhere to be found. While S100 full set was being sold for 34usd or 5,200 Japanese Yen. And I immediately bought it haha. Thank you for this awesome video
No problem!
Can you take photo while taking a video? This is a gem, I was looking for SV-AV100 but this caught my attention. Such a gem 😂❤
Unfortunately not. SV100 video footage is much better resolution, but I gotta say this one has a certain charm to it.
@@hunsberg yes I agree!
@@hunsbergHi. I was wondering what is the SD card limit for this camcorder? 2GB? 4GB? Thank you in advance!
This one can only take 2GB max, however the video is such a low resolution that it turns out to be over 3 and a half hours of recording... Which is much longer than the battery life which is less than an hour.
@@hunsberg you are the best RUclipsr ever!!! Tho I am sorry I have been so inquisitive haha
Can I use more than 2GB sd card? I wonder if there are compatible sd card with 4GB or 8GB size 🤔
The model that came out after (the Panasonic SDR-S200) will take SDHC cards. This one here can only handle 2GB max.
@@hunsberg I see! is recording 30mins to 1hr possible with 2GB?
At maximum quality, 2GB gets only about 25 minutes 😂 Thankfully extra SD cards don't take up too much space.
@@hunsberg thank you for taking the time to answer!! I think SDR-S200 is 4GB max upon my searching. I think they have the same quality or slightly better. 🤔 But I am also eyeing on Panasonic SV-AV100 and it makes me very confused! 😂 Also, do you also do review on digital cameras besides camcorders?
The SV100 is similar but it has some additional SD card restrictions (it was made before speeds were standardized) and lacks optical image stabilization. However it can also record video via an AV input, so that's neat. I mostly just look at old camcorders. I'd love to get an old M43 camera some time though.
wow great camera. seems only flaw is the highlight clipping. wish it had a tad more dynamic range for a smoother highlight rolloff.
Yeah, though with some shutter speed adjustments and a bit of grading some of the highlights can be brought back. The original shots were in 4:2:2 but I didn't grade any of them here.
Did you colour grade this?
Nope, no grading. The white balance was also set manually as needed for each location.
@hunsberg OK great, thanks. I'm looking a getting this camera. Do you find mostly you just leave it set at 4k 10bit 4.2.2 24fps??
Yeah for most of my projects with this camera I shoot with those settings. Since they are slower paced I think it has a nice look, and the 24fps allows for a slower shutter speed when in low light (which this camera is not the best at) If I were filming a lot more action packed things I'd definitely use 4k60 instead.
@@hunsberg what program do you use for editing? And is it on MAC or PC?
I use Shotcut... It is free and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It has a bit of a learning curve but it is very light on resources, so if you have an older computer it is really good.
Love this video and camera, how long is the battery life fully charged using 4k60p?
Thanks! I haven't been filming much at that framerate, but at 4k24p I can easily get 4 hours.
What shooting mode were you using? 4k 30fps etc
This was all in 4k 10bit 24fps
@@hunsberg MOV or MP4?
MOV
I love my PV GS500. Unfortunately the flex cable is dying inside the LCD. Btw, which cables are you using to import the footage? My old computer with FireWire connection just died and I can’t seem to find adaptors for it
The GS150, 300, 500, and a select few other Panasonic models are capable of full quality video capture via the USB Mini B port on the camera. Check out this guide from ConsumerDV: ruclips.net/video/LGfQpY__F3U/видео.html If you are using Linux, the "dvgrab" command will also automatically capture and separate the footage into individual clips.
@@hunsberg Yes, this guide from ConsumerDV is great, unfortunately I only have Macs at home, and it didn't seem to work for me with the USB Mini B to USB cable on my mac. Tried it on QuickTime Player and Final Cut Pro and the camera doesn't show in the import menu.
For Macs, looks like a tried and true solution is to use a chain of adapters to turn the firewire connection into a thunderbolt connection: ruclips.net/video/x5ISyI3VcWo/видео.html Unfortunately most of the stuff I can find with the USB connections and UVC protocol to make it work is all slated for Windows/Linux. If you have an old laptop collecting dust and the spare time to tinker with it, the Linux route is a good last resort.
how to charge
This camera needs to be connected to the dock to charge. The dock itself just takes a barrel plug.
Really nice. I've got so much to learn ;)
Thanks!
Thank you, I've just invested in this camera. Stability was one of my requirements and your video shows this brilliantly! Also Iceland rocks, brought back beautiful memories!
Glad it was helpful!
Finally someone trying all digital Panasonic camcorders 🙏🏼🤝🏼 What’s your favorite :) ?
My favorite is the HC-X1500, but I feel that's cheating lol. From the older models I think the PV-DV203D, I like the look of the single CCD sensor.
What an absolute video nugget, everything you shoot out of it looks like a distant memory and even today the miniature size of it feels novel. Honestly the pocket dvr aspect of it seems like a decent party trick for its time, though I am a little afraid to see what SD storage cost back then.
www.dpreview.com/articles/5868566110/panasonic-sdcards In 2005 a 2GB SD card was about $300!
Y'all are wholesome. Also man this was an addicting series. Went looking for X1500 footage that wasn't just an unboxing or zooming in and out and this ended up being such a binge-able video series about it.
Thanks, glad you liked them!
Tell me, the camera does not have the required language, where and how can I install it, thank you in advance
Unfortunately I am not sure there is a way to add additional languages that are not in the operating system. You can keep an eye on Panasonic's firmware updates to see when they add new ones in official patches: av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/e_cam/download/x2000/index.html
Very nice video clips! How did you import the data into your PC?
Thanks! This camera and a few other Panasonic ones lets you capture the video over USB at full quality. Most of the time though these MiniDV cameras need a firewire port. Either way the process is the same and you just need a program on a computer/laptop to capture the video while it plays back on the camera.
@@hunsberg Thanks for the reply! I see. I guess I should import via Firewire for the full quality. But since it's hard to get, I'll first try to import via RCA connector with a video capture.
Outstanding footage from the Panasonic HC-X1500.
What are tour export settings when uploading to RUclips? Does the image degrade when you upload to RUclips?
I use Shotcut to edit the videos and export as an MP4 with HEVC. In Shotcut's settings I have a quality based render of about 50%, so with 4k footage it comes out to a very clean (but large) video at an average bitrate of about 30mbs. RUclips definitely adds compression over that when uploaded.
@@hunsberg I see thanks for the breakdown. I’m assuming that when you watch these videos on your computer they look a lot better than the same video on RUclips. I have a Sony full frame and I just ordered this camera bc I liked the way your Ireland vlog looked. I need something that’s easier to use and something that I can just grab and record. Do you still have this camera and what’s your opinion of it now that you have used and owned it for quite a while?
Yep I still have it and love it! The battery life, stabilization, and long zoom lense are amazing. I'm usually filming outdoors so I'm always using the ND filters too. Low light performance is... Meh. You can get it to work, but it is a struggle. Also in the camera settings, put the Auto Gain Control to 3db or lower really helps reduce noise.
I’m not quite sure what your channel is about but I absolutely love everything on it. You remind me of myself. I’m always curious and always trying to make something no matter how silly. One difference though, is that you’re willing to out your ideas out there while I just save them on my computer and forget about them haha
Thanks! Yeah it never hurts to embrace being cheesy.
Is all the audio in the video capture with the onboard mic ?
Yep, all from the onboard mic. When it isn't windy it is actually really good.
